20th Anniversary + Grand Re-Opening!

Hey everyone!

Brenda Chi here and hoping you all had a wonderful July 4th weekend.
Thank you all who have been waiting for The Drawing Club to return because we now have a huge announcement from Bob!

“Hello Everyone,

In March 2020 Covid-19 started spreading quickly around the world and we decided the right thing to o was to put our workshop on hold to help protect everyone’s safety. Now, more than 2 years later I am happy to announce the return of The Drawing Club Drawing Workshop!

August 2022 will mark the 20th anniversary of he Drawing Club. I started this workshop in 2002 to create an environment where artists can explore drawing different characters in costume from life each week. Who knew we would still be around 20 years later. After over 34 years of teaching I find myself having to make some difficult decisions regarding my work schedule. Unfortunately, it has become more difficult for me to make time to run evening workshops.

Here’s the great news! I am thrilled to announce tat Brenda Chi, Lai Xu and Bryce Kho have partnered with me when we return. They are the perfect people to help lead The Drawing Club into the next 20 years. I am so excited about the new ideas and enthusiasm they will bring as our workshop restarts after a long time off.

Please keep an eye on social media for updates.
Thank you for all your patience and as always please stay safe!

Sincerely,
Bob Kato
Founder
The Drawing Club”

We are going to keep much of the energy that we love from The Drawing Club, but add a few updates that we cannot wait to share!

Here’s some details for now:
The Drawing Club will now run on Tuesday evenings 7pm-10pm starting in August 2022!

RSVP link will be posted soon on eventbrite*, but you can still do walk-ins, first come first served.

To respect the model who will be performing maskless, we ask all our attendees to wear a mask during the workshop.

Lai, Bryce, and I are so happy to help Bob keep The Drawing Club running, and we hope to see you soon at Gallery Nucleus, Aug 2nd!

Disney’s Master Teachers—Life Drawing For Animation: This Sunday at Wondercon

wca2014

This Sunday April 20 I will be speaking on a panel at Wondercon in Anahein with some other teachers who have done workshops at Disney. Please stop by if you are there.

Thanks,

Bob Kato

Disney’s Master Teachers—Life Drawing For Animation: Sunday, 4/20/14; 12:30p.m. – 1:30p.m.; Room: 300DE

Disney has a long tradition (dating back to the 1930s) of running life drawing classes for its animators. The idea is that understanding and mastering actual anatomy improves animated drawings and gestures. Disney’s current master teachers – Karl Gnass, Mark McDonnell, and Bob Kato – will talk about their creative philosophies, approach to life drawing and gesture, how classical drawing translates to animation, and what animation studios look for in artists. Best of all, they’ll alert you to the classes they run for civilians. Disney visual development artist Dan Cooper will weigh in on how these classes have improved his animation skills. Moderated by Fast Company’s Sue Karlin.
